The Ducati Cup was envisioned after the close of the 2006 road racing season. A group of riders were interested in racing their Ducatis against other Ducati owners and realizing that there were enough riders to create aspecific race class, the event was born.

The class has been designed and envisioned to be a trophy cup class. There is no prize money involved but there are prizes up for grabs during the season as well as for the overall points winner of the class. Beyond the prizes though, the class is meant to be a fun and competitiveclass where participants enjoy the challenges of racing but at the same time are able to socialize with other Ducati owners.

Lastly the class is meant to showcase the Ducati brand itself. There are always a smattering of Ducatis in other classes, but here in Alberta, there has not been a class where the "Ducati Thunder" has been heard all at the same time on a racetrack.
